Varieties of walnuts

Sibișel 44, was selected at SCDP Geoagiu from the walnut populations from Sibișel and and was introduced into culture in 1979. Its fruits are large, ovoid in shape with a pointed tip and rounded base. The walnut kernel represents 48% of the weight of a fruit, it has a light colour, it is crunchy, it has a high concentration of proteins (18.40%) and the taste is sweet, pleasantly aromatic. Fruits ripen in the last decade of September and sometimes in early October.

Geoagiu 65 is, a walnut variety also developed by SCDP Geoagiu. The average weight of a fruit is 14 grams, while the yield of the walnut kernel is 50%. It is 69% fat contains 17.5% proteins and it has light colour. The taste is pleasantly aromatic. Fruit ripening takes place in the second half of October.

Last, but not least, Germisara is, a walnut variety obtained at SCDP Geoagiu as well, which was introduced into cultivation in 1979. Its fruits are very large (15g) with an ovoid shape, with a rounded base and a pointed tip.
